Bastardo (Portugal), or Trousseau (France), is a medium-bodied red grape which typically makes wines packed with cherry, dark chocolate and bramble flavours. It’s like a Black Forest Gâteau in a glass, and tends to pretty punchy in alcohol. In Portugal, Bastardo is one of the key varieties in the production of fortified Port wine.
